Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a significant update to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) by integrating monthly income measurements.
This new cost-of-living indicator aims to provide a more accurate reflection of economic conditions and address current needs.
During today’s Dewan Rakyat session, Anwar emphasised the urgency of adapting economic policies to meet essential requirements.
He highlighted that the changes align with international guidelines from the International Labour Organisation.
“The current economic conditions and feedback from the International Labour Organisation necessitate these adjustments. Certain necessities are not properly reflected in the existing index,” Anwar said.
He added that the decision to modify the CPI was made during a March meeting, underscoring the need for ongoing alignment with both domestic and international standards.
