Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has extended an invitation to Malaysian companies to engage in various economic activities aimed at enhancing socio-economic development in Southern Philippines. This invitation was made during a courtesy visit by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who was on an official visit to the Philippines.

During their meeting, both parties reviewed the positive developments in Southern Philippines. Highlighting the region’s vast potential, President Marcos encouraged Malaysian companies to contribute to its economic activities. This visit also marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Philippines.

Mohamad also met with his counterpart Enrique A. Manalo to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, the halal industry, Islamic finance, and food security. They addressed regional and international issues, stressing ASEAN unity in tackling regional matters and the urgent need for a ceasefire in Palestine.

The Philippines pledged full cooperation with Malaysia during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. Mohamad reaffirmed Malaysia’s support for Bangsamoro’s socio-economic development through capacity-building programmes, including the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme.

A reception celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations was attended by both Foreign Ministers, Philippine Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, foreign diplomats, business leaders, and the Malaysian diaspora.
