Govt Allocates RM4 Billion To Meet Perak, KIGIP, Penang’s Water Needs

The Malaysian government has approved RM4 billion in expenditures to address the needs of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) in Perak and to fulfill water requirements in Penang.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the funding during a Dewan Rakyat sitting today. He stated that Kedah had offered assistance, but the proposed amount was insufficient.

“Kedah had offered to help, but the amount was too small, which is 25 million litres per day. However, the water needs in Perak, particularly in north Perak namely Kerian, Larut, Matang, and the KIGIP needs for the beginning of this initial need reached 300 million litres a day,” the Prime Minister explained, in response to a query from Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik.

This significant investment aims to support the development and sustainability of the KIGIP and ensure adequate water supply for Penang, addressing critical infrastructure needs in these regions.
