MATTA Calls For Long-Term Solutions In Weeding Out Bad Tour Operators

The tourism association MATTA, said it is committed to the safety and well-being of tourists and urges for stringent measures to be carried out against those responsible for such incidents. The recent events underscore the critical need for vigilance and accountability within the transport sector.

“We urge the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to take firm and decisive action against any parties found responsible,” said Nigel Wong, President of MATTA. “The actions of a few irresponsible individuals or organisations should not tarnish the reputation of the entire tourism industry.”

The assocoation ssid it is ready to collaborate closely with the Ministry and other relevant authorities to identify and implement long-term, sustainable solutions to address the root causes affecting various aspects of the industry.

This follows the suspension of a tour agency’s license pending an investigation into a bus crash in Genting Highlands that resulted in the deaths of two Chinese tourists. It was later revealed that the bus operator lacked a valid license and the driver had accumulated 27 traffic summonses.
