No Increase In Electricity Tariff For The Year, 1 sen Reduction For Commercial

There will be no increase in electricity tariffs for all electricity users in Peninsular Malaysia starting this Monday (July 1) until December 31, according to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).

The statement also noted that the government has agreed to reduce the surcharge by 1 sen/kWh for street lighting categories (tariff G and G1) under the supervision of Local Authorities (PBT) for the same period.

In addition, commercial and industrial users will experience a reduction in the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) surcharge by 1 sen/kWh for the period of July to December 2024.

The ministry announced that the total amount of targeted electricity subsidies for the period of July to December this year, which will be funded by the government, is RM2.192 billion.

The statement also encouraged users to participate in the installation of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels in their residential buildings under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) Program.

PETRA announced that through the new Solar Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), new NEM Rakyat Program users who apply to the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) on or after April 1 will receive a rebate of RM1,000/kWAC up to a maximum of RM4,000.
