MBSJ Gives Till August 2 To Object New Property Assessment Tax

Property owners who receive a notice of the new valuation list from the Subang Jaya City Council have till August 2 to object to the new assesstment valuation.

The Corporate Communications Division of MBSJ’s Corporate and Strategic Management Department informed that 326,646 New Valuation List Notices were sent by post to property owners for notification since June 21.

According to MBSJ, the assessment review is to balance the increasing income, expenses, and management of the city council and help support governance.

The new assessment tax increase has been kept to not exceed 25 percent from the previous tax for categories, namely residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant land (agriculture). The state has emphasised that it had not increased assessment tax for 32 years since 1992 for Subang Jaya and Bandar Sunway areas while USJ, Puchong, Seri Kembangan, and Serdang for 28 years since 1996.

However, residents have voiced their dissatisfaction due to the rising cost of living in Klang Valley, stemming from various policy changes that is impacting prices of goods going up. This year the government has already raised electricity pricing, removed diesel subsidy and plans are afoot to rationaliise more subsidies.

Many are arguing that the timing of raising public taxes just after coming out of the pandemic is inappropriate.
