In the first week of the Second Meeting, Third Session of the 15th Parliament, the Dewan Rakyat passed five bills. These include the Employment Insurance System (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Workers’ Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill 2023, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) (Dissolution) Bill 2024, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) (Amendment) Bill 2024. The latter two bills aim to transfer Mavcom’s functions to CAAM.

The Audit (Amendment) Bill 2024, seeking to amend the Audit Act 1957, was presented for its first reading.

Additionally, the Dewan Rakyat approved a motion to refer Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan to the Rights and Privileges Committee over allegations regarding court charges against him. The motion, proposed by Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, seeks to determine if his statements misled the Dewan Rakyat and affected involved parties’ interests.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim addressed concerns about the purported sale of Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) shares to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), clarifying that the majority of shares remain with national stakeholders. Anwar emphasized that the transaction only involves management, not ownership of the airports, which remain government property.

Azalina also presented the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) Annual Report and Financial Statement for 2021 and 2022. The debate on this motion involved 27 MPs and will continue next week.

The Second Meeting and Third Session of the 15th Parliament will run for 15 days until July 18.
