Govt Says UiTM To Remain For Bumiputera’s

The government said the policy of establishing Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) for the Malays, Orang Asli and children of Sabah and Sarawak remains to bridge the gap between the races, especially the socio-economic aspect, said the minister of higher education.

MOHE Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said this year’s Bumiputera Economic Congress report shows that there is an economic gap involving Bumiputera in terms of average monthly income, corporate equity holdings, poverty rate, production of skilled labor and professional qualifications.

“Even the absolute poverty rate among Bumiputeras still needs continuous efforts to improve.

“With the establishment of UiTM, more Bumiputera children have the opportunity to continue their studies and fill various positions in either the public sector or the industrial sector.

“This is a necessity in improving the quality of life and changing their fate, including in the professional employment sector such as doctors, accountants, lawyers, engineers and others,” he said
