Sulu Group Claims, Social Media ‘Dark Side’, LCS Project Highlight Dewan Rakyat Sitting Today

The Second Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament commenced today with significant issues highlighted on the first day, according to the Order Paper published on the Parliament’s website. Among the topics to be addressed are the claims by the Sulu group, social media’s ‘dark side,’ online prostitution, and the progress of the second Littoral Combatant Ship (LCS) project.

During the Oral Question and Answer Session, William Leong Jee Keen (PH-Selayang) will ask the Prime Minister about the latest status of the Sulu group claims and the timeline for resolving the case.

Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah) will inquire of the Defence Minister about the construction progress of the second LCS and the payments made to the Lumut Naval Shipyard.

Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BN-Beaufort) will question the Communications Minister regarding the government’s plans to combat the ‘dark side’ of social media and actions against online prostitution activities on platforms like X and Telegram.

Datuk Seri Richard Riot anak Jaem (GPS-Serian) will seek an update from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister on the ministry’s actions to control the rising prices of essential goods.

Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (PN-Marang) will pose a question to the Foreign Minister about the government’s intention to review the two-state solution in defending Palestinian sovereignty in Gaza.

Datuk Idris Ahmad (PN-Bagan Serai) will ask the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister for statistics on unregistered childcare centres and enforcement actions taken against them.

Following the Oral Question and Answer session, the Transport Minister will table the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Dissolution) Bill 2024 and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (Amendment) Bill 2024 for their first reading.

Additionally, a motion from the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department will be presented to refer Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) to the Rights and Privileges Committee following his statement alleging that individuals purportedly acting on behalf of the government could cancel or drop court charges against him.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting will continue until July 18.
