FDI Into China Hit US$57.94 Billion In First 5-Months

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Chinese mainland in actual use stood at 412.5 billion yuan (about 57.94 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months of 2024, data from the country’s commerce ministry showed Friday.

The amout is significatly higher than what the country reported in 2023, when it sunk 80% from the year before to US$33 billion for the whole year.

However these numbers are still low compared to US$344 billion recorded in 2021 when China was the favourite investment spot before the former US President Donald Trump administered slew of tariff’s on trade.
