Penang To Discuss With Finance Minister On Incentives For IC Design Park

Penang Chief Minister has commented that he will be meeting with the Finance Minister II to discuss on potential incentives to improve the Integrated Circuit Design (IC design) and Digital Park ecosystem.

Chow Kon Yeow was quoted of saying that he hopes to get support from the Ministry of Finance to provide incentives related to the Integrated Circuit Design (IC design) and Digital Park that has been announced before.

“It is understood that Finance Minister II will also provide the latest feedback regarding the projects that have been applied for by the Penang State Government,” he said.

Earlier, the Penang State Government announced plans to create an Integrated Circuit (IC) and Digital Design Park to attract and house high-impact projects.

The development of the park will consist of two phases involving 42.5 hectares in the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park.

The first phase which started in January last year involved the construction of two office buildings, Global Business Services (GBS) By The Sea and GBS TechSpace with a total cost of RM347 million.

The second phase involves the construction of GBS@Technoplex involving a cost of approximately RM308 million and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.

In addition to the ‘IC design’ incentive, Kon Yeow said that the Penang State Government has also submitted an application for the proposed construction of an elevated highway from Juru to Sungai Dua as well as the Perak – Penang Water Project.
