Private University To Be Summoned By MOHR Over Unpaid Staff Salaries

The Labour Department under the Ministry of Human Resources said it will be taking necessary action against a private university over complaints over late salary payment to its staffs.

In a statement, the agency said it had received several complaints regarding late payment of salaries to staff by a private university and upon investigation found the complaints to be grounded.

Upon investigation the agency also said the university management admitted they are now faced with financial crisis which had caused salary payment delays for the month April and May, involving 93 workers with a salary of RM4,800 and above. Of that number, 86 are local workforce and 7 are foreign workforce. The institution said some of the workers have also quit making it difficult for it to manage the issue considering the administration and finance personals being new.

In view of this the MOHR agency has issued a summons for the university management to attend the agency’s Cyberjaya office to give statements and submit relevant documents. And for the affected staffs to attend the meeting as well in order to file a case on the employer.
