Forest City Casino News Riles Up Prime Minister

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on those who have linked him and the government to the purported Forest City casino rumour must face legal action.

Describing those behind the allegation as politically bankrupt, Anwar said in this matter, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had never broached the idea for a gambling centre in Forest City.

Anwar questioned on the source of the allegation since no such discussion were ever brought up, the Prime Minister said those who created these allegation should be put the prison cell where he was locked in in the past

Anwar reminded these individuals that they are free to criticise the government but not the royal institution.

“You offend the rulers, and the rulers are a national institution we respect and uphold, as stated in the Constitution. We have a monarchy system. It cannot be treated like politicians, attacked at will. This is definitely not permissible,” he said.

Anwar raised this matter after certain individuals made accusations and spread slander regarding the casino issue.

An international news agency quoted sources as claiming that Malaysia was negotiating with several tycoons to establish a casino there and that Anwar had met with Berjaya Corp founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay from the Genting Group last week.

However both tycoons have denied the claims and has called for a stop on spreading such unsubstantiated news.

In the report there was also claims that representatives of Sultan Ibrahim and other senior government officials were present at that meeting. The report alleged that discussions on the casino project were still at the preliminary stage.
