MOSTI Launches Supercharger Series 2024

Today (June 28), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) inaugurated the Supercharger Series 2024 under the theme “Visions to Venture: The Pre-Commercialisation Drive”. This strategic initiative aims to catalyse collaboration, engagement, and knowledge sharing within Malaysia’s Research, Development, Commercialisation and Innovation (R&D&C&I) ecosystem.

With a focus on advancing innovations from concept to market entry (#IdeasToImpact), the Series seeks to revolutionise the pre-commercialisation phase of Malaysian innovations in 2024. Key objectives include fostering technopreneurship, increasing startup creation, enhancing Malaysia’s commercialisation rate, and driving economic growth through R&D commercialisation.

Additionally, the initiative aims to facilitate high-skilled job creation and empower Bumiputera communities through knowledge exchange and engagement with international research institutes.

Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, highlighted the significance of the Whole of Government Approach (WGA) in advancing Malaysia’s position in global innovation rankings. “The Supercharger Series is pivotal in aligning ministries and agencies towards addressing societal challenges through science, technology, and innovation,” emphasised the Minister, referencing Malaysia’s 36th ranking in the Global Innovation Index 2023.

Central to the Supercharger Series are Power Sharing Sessions, MRANTI Programme Application & Consultation Booths, Networking Lunches, and Pre-Commercialisation Bootcamps. These components provide participants, including university spin-offs, researchers, and private sector entities, with crucial insights, personalised consultations, and networking opportunities to accelerate their commercialisation efforts.

Datuk Wira Dr. Hj. Rais Hussin Hj. Mohamed Ariff, CEO of MRANTI, underscored the Series’ role in equipping innovators with essential tools, knowledge, and networks to transform ideas into impactful products and services. Highlighting its growth, he noted a significant increase in participation from 500 in 2022 to over 1,500 in 2023 across Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Pahang, and Johor.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Commercialisation Year (MCY) Summit 2024, slated for 12th August at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, aims to celebrate and promote commercialisation success stories across Malaysia’s universities, institutions, and research agencies. Themed “Leading the Regional Innovation,” the summit will spotlight key sectors such as biotechnology, the hydrogen economy, and space technology.
