Bursa Malaysia Appoints Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz As Public Interest Director

Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”) has appointed Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as the new Public Interest Director and Independent Non-Executive Director, effective July 1, 2024. The appointment, made under Section 10(1)(a) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 by the Minister of Finance, marks a significant addition to the Board of Directors.

Raja Teh Maimunah brings with her over three decades of extensive experience in the financial services sector, encompassing investment banking, wholesale banking, Islamic finance, and digital banking. Currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of AEON Bank (M) Berhad, she has previously held prominent role roles, including Chief Executive Officer of AmInvestment Bank and Managing Director of Wholesale Banking at AmBank Group. Her career also includes pivotal positions such as Global Head of Islamic Markets at Bursa Malaysia, where she played a pivotal role in establishing Bursa Suq Al-Sila’, the world’s first end-to-end Shariah-compliant commodity trading platform.

Commenting on the appointment, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia, expressed his delight, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Raja Teh Maimunah back to Bursa Malaysia in her capacity as a Public Interest Director. Her profound understanding of the Exchange and the capital markets will be invaluable. Raja Teh Maimunah holds a LLB (Hons) from the University of East London, UK, and has been recognized with an Honorary Doctor of Law from the same institution. She is a Chartered Banker and a fellow of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) and the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIFP).

As of July 1, 2024, the Board of Directors of Bursa Malaysia comprises a diverse and experienced group of individuals dedicated to steering the Exchange towards continued success and growth in Malaysia’s financial landscape.
