With all major mobile network operators having agreed to the new share sale agreement for an equity stake in Digital Nasional Berhad, Telekom Malaysia which has yet to consent said the matter is with the board.
In a statement to Bursa, the telecommunication group said with regards to the terms and conditions of its SSA, the Longstop Date to fulfil, or waive, all the conditions precedent is 21 August 2024.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has recently said that all network operators have agreed to the agreement, and will be signing the SSA before end of the month. He has also instructed Malaysian Communication & Multimedia Commission to start preparing the process for the secong 5G network and identify an operator who can lead the roll out.
However, funding matters for the second network is still unclear as previously DNB had been the sole entity given the mandate to wire up the nation with 5G. The contract was handed to Ericsson in a deal worth RM11 billion, the question now lies if the amount will be split for the second network or new funding will be provided by the government?
