Berjaya Sompo – FINCO Drive Literacy And Sustainability With Nationwide Book Collection

Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad (Berjaya Sompo) and the Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) have successfully wrapped up their BSIB-FINCO Nationwide Book Drive, amassing nearly 1,600 books. This initiative underscores their commitment to enhancing quality education and fostering a culture of sustainability.

The book drive, part of Berjaya Sompo’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts, aimed to bolster educational resources while promoting environmental consciousness. Conducted across 15 branch offices nationwide, the campaign resulted in book donations that will benefit approximately 7,800 students across 13 schools—one in each state with an additional two in Klang Valley.

Berjaya Sompo, known for its strong community focus, led this initiative with FINCO, a not-for-profit organisation supported by Bank Negara Malaysia. Since its inception in 2017, FINCO has been pivotal in delivering sustainable educational programmes for disadvantaged children and youth in Malaysia. The collaboration leveraged the strengths and networks of both organisations to gather resources and expertise to meet the needs of young people from B40 communities.

The drive concluded with a collection of 1,525 books, reflecting the shared commitment of both organisations to make a positive community impact. These books will enhance students’ learning experiences and promote literacy and sustainability.

Tan Sek Kee, CEO of Berjaya Sompo said: “Our collaboration with FINCO highlights our dedication to significantly impacting the lives of young people, especially those from underserved communities. By enhancing educational access and embracing sustainability, we aim to create a brighter and more inclusive future.”

FINCO CEO Clare Walker added, “The students reached through this collaboration will now have access to more books spanning a variety of genres and difficulty levels, encouraging them to read for pleasure. Instilling a love for reading at a young age builds foundational English language skills and fosters critical reading skills necessary for making informed decisions later in life.”

As the financial industry in Malaysia unites under social responsibility, the BSIB-FINCO Nationwide Book Drive stands as a prime example of collective action driving positive social change and sustainable development.
